Paste or upload the quote and the final invoice. Notch lines them up, flags charges that changed or were added, totals what it could cost you (for example: tear-off billed at $650 after the quote said “included”), and drafts the letter asking them to fix it.
Photos of paper documents work fine. Scanned PDFs are read up to 6 pages, and text PDFs up to 40. Black out account numbers and Social Security numbers first.
Put the two side by side and go line by line: items on the quote that are missing or priced differently on the bill, and charges on the bill that the quote never mentioned. Notch (getnotch.us) does this for you: paste or upload both documents and it lists each difference with the amount at stake.
First check whether you got a fixed quote or an estimate, and whether you approved any change orders in writing. Then ask the contractor, in writing, to explain or remove each charge that wasn't on the quote. Notch drafts that letter from the differences it finds. It is not legal advice; for large amounts, check your state's consumer protection office.
Yes. Notch uses S.I. to read both documents and write the comparison memo. It can miss things or get things wrong, so check its findings against your original documents before you act.
